GP RATING Synergy Exam 2023
Eligibility:
- Should have born after 1/January/1998
- Should have scored 50% in Class X
- Should have completed pre-sea training; or
- Should be appearing in final semester exam of the course in Maritime Training Institute

Entrance Exam for Recruitment of GP Rating Examination syllabus:-
The examination will be at Test Center for a duration of
3 hours (180 minutes).
The examination will be of the objective type comprising of 200 questions.
A total of 100 questions will test knowledge and 100 questions that test aptitude.
Each question answered correctly is awarded 1 mark and every question answered incorrectly is awarded 0.25 negative mark. Un-attempted questions are not marked (no plus or minus marks).
Section A – Navigation, Cargo handling and safety – 50 questions
- General ship knowledge
- Nautical terms and parts of a ship
- Basic Navigation – Terms used, helm orders, elementary rules of the road and buoyage, Basic flags and their usage, watchkeeping and reporting, identify navigational equipment and their uses, mooring and anchoring terms and procedures, emergency and actions.
- Cargo Handling and stowage at basic level- cargo handling equipment, stowage, securing of cargo/containers, hold preparation, stores handling.
- Lifting equipment and safety – Basic firefighting equipment, safe working loads of equipment, rope work, safe working practices.
Section B – Machinery Operations, workshop practice and safety – 50 questions
- Machinery and emergency equipment in a ship and their purpose.
- Basic workshop practice – Turning, fitting, arc and gas welding/ cutting, drilling etc. Identification of tools.
- Safety precautions during work, identification of alarms.
- Level measurement, lubrication and watch keeping.
- Basic electrical safety, electrical hand tools for maintenance.
- All questions in the knowledge areas will be from the approved DG syllabus for GP Ratings course (Training Circular 1 of 2018)
Section C – Aptitude – 100 questions
- Basic numerical reasoning.
- Basic pattern recognition.
- Basic logical reasoning.
- Basic general knowledge and mechanical reasoning.
